Quiet day today.
Sue started the day with a run to the other side of Lake Bled and back…
… And once she got back, and showered, we had a slow amble back around the lake to the water sports centre, where the main Camping Bled site is located. The cafe outside that camp site was the only one we found open, everywhere else only seemed to open at 12 during the week.
And I discovered a new culinary delight that I can actually have on my new Paleo-Keto diet – shakshuka!
And of course there’s endless fantastic scenery to be photographed…
And a selfie…
We then headed back to the apartment to get out of the heat.
Once it has cooled off a bit Sue went for a bike ride around the full circuit of the lake.
Now… Sue made a new friend when she got back from her bike ride. The owner of our apartment seems to sit outside his front door for much of the day, and I think he likes having a chat with the residents. He said that for 55 years he’d run, and made, the Puntla boats that take tourists to the lake island. His sons still run some of the boats on the lake. He said he even gave Tito a total of 8 boat trips on the lake, back in the day.
Once Sue had finished interrogating the boatman (😉) we took another walk down to the Lake for Sue to have a swim… I’m still not up to doing that sort of activity again.
We watched the world go by for a bit and took a few more pictures… of course.
We then wandered back to the apartment and found Sue’s boatman friend sitting outside again. We had another lengthy conversation where he covered some of the previous ground, but he suggested we go and see his boat workshop where he’s working on two more boats, each 500 hours to build. He said that Lake Bled is very different now with the tourists. Where there were 3 Puntla boats in his day, there are now over 20.
After seeing the Puntla workshop he gave us the key to an apartment, underneath the one we’re staying in, with a feature sofa!…
Clearly the apartments are still being completed. He said they can only be worked on in the winter when it’s cooler.
That was it for the day. We’re going to head to Croatia tomorrow, to a national park, and knock off a couple of hundred km. We’ll probably do that stop for 2 or 3 nights, then somewhere around Split and that will then get us to Dubrovnik afterwards.
Harry defeated the Dementors and saved both Buckbeak and Sirius. Quidditch World Cup next.
