Today was another travel day, about 220km from Trier to Achern… on the West side of the Black Forest.

It was a quick pack-up today as we hadn’t set everything up for just one night. We enjoyed the campsite and the husband and wife that ran it… at least their relationship! The husband was Dutch and a great conversationalist, it was his 56th birthday today and last night we also got a story about buying a London bus.

Toilets and showers were good, quiet overnight and everyone very friendly, as usual.

We’d left the campsite by 11 and headed to the Black Forest.

We’ve decided that The Netherlands must be empty… all the Dutch are on holiday in Belgium and Germany (though we know that not to be true, because in other years we’ve seen the other half of the Netherlands in France, Italy and Spain… not to mention Cornwall! 🤣. Always very friendly and willing to help us helpless English speakers!)

With 220km to do today we took the slightly more scenic route, but in the end it seemed to be mainly motorways 🤷🏼‍♂️

There’s not much to report but we stopped for a coffee and wee in Niederbronn-les-Bains, between Saarbrűcken and Haguanau. It was a random turn off the main road (after we went in for miles with no sign of a cafe) into the town, but turned out to be really picturesque with a river running through the centre.

We got to the Grässel Mühle Campsite in Obersasbach by about 3:30 (after a quick three day shop at the Achern Lidl). The owner was really friendly on reception and has pointed us back to the website for information on what to do in the local area.

The campsite fees included a bus and rail pass for the area to make as many journeys as we like while we’re here.

So, while we’re here we’ll probably do a bike ride one day and a bus tour on the other.

We now have 895 miles on the clock, so 150 added today and the car is saying it’s 32C as we arrived at our stop.

Harry has just been sorted into Gryffindor.
