Today started with a fantastic breakfast spread laid on by our hosts Tom and Helen. Opted for the non-alcoholic option 😉
Of course we had long chats yesterday, where we learnt the difference between Billige Geschist (cheap shit) vs Gunstig (value). The Germans, of course, appreciate the latter and not the former.
Of course Sue had to have a sit on Tom’s shiny, almost new, tractor…!
After breakfast we set off for our stop for the next two nights in Vianden.
Of course we were halted just outside of Tom and Helen’s village by two donkeys and goat on the road!
By the way… LeClerc has gone really up market! They must be trying to avoid the Aldi and Lidl market sector!
On the way to Vianden we’d been recommended a stop in LaRochette for a beverage and a wander around the base of the castle – neither of us fancied the trip up to the top in the heat!
As we sat in a cafe a band was warming up in the bandstand, probably Blondie, Denise-Denise we thought.
Then off again to our evening stop a few km’s away. Through the endless idillic scenery…
Our campsite for the next two nights is a more formal, more expensive (€30 a night), all mod-cons affair – Castle Vianden Camping. The loos and showers are modern, clean and not very busy. The site is on the River Our, which with the 30+C heat is looking very tempting while we’re here. The site pitches run right up to the water’s edge.
It’s also our first wash day today! Contactless payment and a 50 minute wash, just right for writing blog posts while sat in the main office WiFi zone 🤣… and of course panning tomorrow’s bike ride into town and up to the castle.
Supper is what’s becoming a trip staple… meat and salad, sausages in the Ridge Monkey today…
