So the day was a perfect travel day. Grey and just sort of thinking about drizzling as we put our stuff away.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But before we left the Ypres area we had to do one more cemetery and memorial – Essex Farm, to the north of Ypres.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Essex Farm is a smaller site, but is famous for the place that John McCrae wrote \u201cIn Flanders Fields\u201d. if you zoom in on the bronze plaque image below the you can read the poem.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After that last of our scheduled sombre stops we headed out of the area to make a dent in our trip to see an old University friend on the Lux, French, German border.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As we turned off the main highways around Charleroi we took a fortuitous punt on an InterMarche to stock up with nosh for a few days, and a very well hidden loo at the back of the shop. As it happens this was the last big supermarket we saw before the campsite, and was a lucky break for a decent shop, even with the Waitrose-esque prices we had to pay. There\u2019s certainly a lot more plastic packaging being used in this region than in the UK.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the end we ended up south of Charleroi in a Park4Night recommended campsite next to the Semoy river. The Faucon campsite is basic, cheap (no loo paper!) but very quiet. The camping pitches confused us (we\u2019re probably on the wrong pitch) but we\u2019re only here for one night, heading to Tom\u2019s tomorrow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
